Rosacea Questions & Answers
What causes Rosacea?
Is it vascular, fungal, bacterial, or just plain old genetics? The vast majority of sufferers already know their triggers but want to prevent it from getting worse. Below is a list of possible triggers that come from actual ZENMED customers.
- Alcohol - perhaps an allergy or change in vascular pressure in the body
- Weather conditions
- Sun exposure
- Temperature changes
- Emotional changes
- Spicy, hot foods
- Detergents or perfumes
Rosacea is an inflammatory skin condition whereby the redness is a reaction to an external source. One way to prevent Rosacea is to avoid your triggers altogether. Do not ingest anything that you know causes your skin to react. Covering your face in the cold and the sun and using sunscreen and a hat regularly will also help to minimize future breakouts. It may be helpful to try a natural, anti-inflammatory diet as recommended by a naturopath. Supplementing a healthy diet with the ZENMED Skin Support Supplement is also extremely important; this is an excellent source of naturally known anti-inflammatories, like Bromelain. It is also antioxidant rich to help support the body's natural immune function, the key to keeping inflammation low.
How does the Support System work?
Skincare becomes increasingly important with Rosacea sufferers. Skin must be handled delicately so as not to irritate it further. This means that sufferers should not use any scrubs or hot water when cleansing the face. Use only gentle, non-scented, non-colored, cream-based cleansers like the Gentle Cleansing Cream by ZENMED. As we age, this condition becomes harder to manage and often spreads from the cheeks to the nose and eyes, if left untreated or treated carelessly. The key is to treat the skin quickly after an inflammatory response to reduce the chance of long-term damage. Our Support Serum is fortified with Magnesium Ascorbyl Phosphate (high-grade Vitamin C), as the benefits of Vitamin C are long understood in the skincare community. This helps fortify the skin tissues and increase collagen production, in turn, creating a protective barrier for the skin.
Does the system work on mild and severe Rosacea?
This system is a regime of skin care products created for sensitive, inflamed skin. Using gentle skincare products will help in making your skin less reactive and prone to redness and breakouts.
What should I buy if I have Rosacea and acne?
Acne Rosacea is often the scientific name given to Rosacea conditions. As some people only experience the redness and ruddiness accustomed to this condition, many others experience pustules and pimples. You can try something like our Derma Cleanse Acne Gel, which has natural antibacterial agents as well as acne-fighting medication. If you suffer from a more oily acne-like condition, we offer 2 types of our system: one for oily skin and one for dry. Try the oily skin formulation and see if it makes a difference in the acne. The Support Serum also has a gently, natural antibacterial property to it.
What's the difference between the oily & dry systems?
One comes with a gentle cream-based cleanser for people that suffer from more dry, combination skin. This cleanser is ideal for customers who also suffer from flakiness. The formulation does not clog pores and is meant for people that have sensitivities to cleansers (i.e. Get redness or stinging right after cleansing). The oily skin formulation is ideal for people that have normal to oily skin as it helps balance oil levels without over-drying.
What should I buy if I have combination skin?
We recommend the dry skin system to most everyone unless you do suffer from pimples or pustules.
What cosmetics do you recommend?
We always recommend the use of mineral makeup whenever possible. It is naturally based, fairly non-reactive, and usually, provides a natural SPF factor.
Acne Questions & Answers
What causes acne?
There are many theories about this, but the main ones are hormonal fluctuations, acne-causing bacteria, (in some cases) poor hygiene, and a genetic predisposition.
How does the Derma Cleanse System work?
In 2 ways. Derma Cleanse Dietary Supplement is a naturally based detoxification supplement. The external treatments help calm the skin, heal existing pustules, and promote healthy cell turnover. Secondly, the wash helps maintain a healthy pH on the surface of the skin while the medicated acne gel helps heal and prevent future acne from occurring.
Does it work on mild and severe acne?
Yes, the Derma Cleanse System is created to help with all types of acne, from the mildest to cystic acne. This system is created mainly for persistent acne, the kind that feels like it is unmanageable or unpredictable.
What should I use for acne scarring?
The first step is prevention. All acne should be treated as soon as possible. Letting pustules infect and continue swelling only causes more damage on the skin and its elasticity. The ZENMED® Derma Cleanse Acne Gel is packed with beta hydroxy acid, which is great for healthy cell turnover and minimizing scars and damaged skin. Never pick or pop pimples. Any forceful breaking of the skin will cause unnecessary damage.
Can I use antibiotics with Derma Cleanse capsules?
No, unless approved by a physician. All prescribed medications should be used as directed, and no medication should be discontinued without your doctor’s approval.
Can you use Derma Cleanse capsules with birth control?
There is no evidence of this supplement interfering with birth control pills.
Can I use Derma Cleanse capsules if using progesterone/estrogen pills?
Please talk to your physician before mixing any medications with any supplements.
What would you recommend for whiteheads and blackheads?
Blackheads and whiteheads need exfoliation before they grow to full-size pimples. ZENMED® Derma Cleanse Acne Gel is an effective exfoliating agent that not only helps gently peel the skin but also helps heal whiteheads and prevent them from growing. AHA/BHA Complex is also an excellent product for promoting healthy cell turnover.
Does your product help reduce oily skin?
No product will reduce oily skin, it will only help balance the oils that are currently overproducing. Overproduction of oils often occurs when products are too strong and strip the oils, causing the body to produce overcompensate. ZENMED® washes and gels help adjust the PH of the oils to create an environment less appealing to acne-causing bacteria.
Can I take multi-vitamins with the Derma Cleanse System?
One multivitamin a day should not have any effect on our product.
Can I take other herbal products with your system?
We recommend that you speak with your healthcare provider.
I saw that your Derma Cleanse uses essential oils, will this work for oily acne prone skin?
Absolutely. The essential oils that are carried throughout our products have specific antibacterial and anti-inflammatory traits. The "oils" are effective, all-natural skin care solutions that have been used for hundreds of years on difficult skin.
Will my system eventually build up a resistance to the Derma Cleanse capsules, thus making them ineffective?
Herbal supplements of any kind have not been known to cause resistance. Herbs are active foods that can help balance the body. Sometimes our regular foods are not giving us the right enzymes or actives that we require. Dietary supplements, such as Derma Cleanse, are not drugs.
What would you recommend for reducing large pores?
Does smoking while on the Derma Cleanse System have a negative effect?
Cigarettes have nicotine, which is a stimulant, which will have a negative effect on Skin going through any sort of inflammatory response, which needs to be calmed.
Are there certain foods that an acne sufferer should avoid?
Foods high on the glycemic index, such as white bread and rice, can often be detrimental to your skin's recovery. Everyone’s triggers are different. Free charts are available online. Reduce these foods in your diet and see if it makes a difference.
Does alcohol have any effect on the Derma Cleanse capsules?
Alcohol is high on sugar and on the glycemic index. It should be avoided altogether when you have acne. Do not consume alcohol while using the capsules as it may cause stomach distress.
Can the product be used id you suffer from high blood pressure, diabetes, cholesterol, thyroid?
Please talk to your healthcare provider.
Scar Treatment Questions & Answers
What is hyperpigmentation?
This is when the skin undergoes some sort of trauma and overproduces melanin, or pigment, and deposits it on the surface of the skin. This may manifest itself as a freckle or a spot.
Will the Skin Eraser Kit totally get rid of my scars? How?
The ZENMED® Skin Eraser Kit will help lighten up dark spots and scars. Exfoliation mixed with a chemical peel will help your complexion get back to normal.
Peel Questions & Answers
What is a chemical peel?
For the last decade, the chemical peel has been the go-to treatment for hyperpigmentation, fine lines, rough texture, dull-looking skin, and breakouts in most esthetician and medical skin spas.
How does it work?
It is a very simple process. A chemical solution triggers a reaction on the skin causing dead skin cells to peel off. There are synthetic and natural agents that can cause this effect. ZENMED only uses naturally-based glycolic acid, salicylic, lactic, and vitamin C to achieve peeling results. These acids belong to the alpha and beta hydroxy acid groups. In recent years, beta hydroxy acids (salicylic) have been found to penetrate deeper into the pores than some acids and have a better effect on acne and inflammation (redness).
What are typical results?
The visible results of a peel treatment are usually dramatic. However, patience is key as it normally takes multiple sessions to see the full results. The only time people have reported not seeing any improvement is when they have used the Skin Eraser Kit inconsistently and/or given up. Give it some time and keep moisturizing. The reason we recommend the peptide-enriched AVT Cream is because it is a neutral and soothing product that will seal the skin and help it regenerate quicker than letting your skin dry out.
What is the goal?
Skin will look rejuvenated, feel smoother, and fine lines will be visibly reduced. Ridding your skin of the layer of dead skin cells on the surface is what gives skin it's "youthful glow".
What is a Microdermabrasion?
This is a quick and painless way to speed up cell turnover on the surface of the skin and allow new skin cells to form quicker than they would have naturally. This leads to instant visible improvement to dry skin, discoloration, and rough texture.
How does it work?
Smooth granules are concentrated into a creamy base. When applied in a circular motion, this gives a manual "buff", gently lifting away dead skin cells. Removing this "dead layer" then helps with circulation and allows for better absorption of active ingredients applied directly afterward. Penetration occurs easier and the skin will be smoother and far more nourished.
What are typical results?
After a series of at-home treatments, there is a marked improvement in hyperpigmentation, sun damage spots, dryness, fine lines, wrinkles, and acne scars.
What is the goal?
A microdermabrasion is an ideal treatment to partner with a glycolic treatment or a deep moisturizing with peptides. This will cause a visible improvement in aging skin and acne scars. Skin will circulate better and this will help with minor breakouts and clogged pores. Skin will be clearer and have a more even tone.
